Data storage – Store it securely.
Data which is defined as useful information often needs to be stored securely. Data needs to be stored securely for various reasons.
Data needs to be stored for the purpose of future use, for the purpose of reference, for the purpose of aiding in decision making, for the purpose of making changes to the storage system etc. data storage devices hence are very useful and are instrumental in storage of a company’s data effectively.
Data storage devices are varied in nature and are available in many forms and shapes. Data storage devices are classified into various categories on the basis of the data that they store. Some data storage devices offer unlimited storage of data while some other offer limited storage. Some devices use a tape device to store data while some others use compact disks. These varied types of data storage each have their own advantages and disadvantages.
The primary data storage device in any computer is the hard drive. The hard drive is located on the inside of a computer and is used to store data. A hard drive uses magnetic disks to store data. Hard drives are the place where the entire resources of the computer rest. It is the hard drive which is the main storage hub of the computer. The hard drive needs to be protected against various threats affecting the data storage on it. Hence hard drives are located on the inside of a computer to protect them against unwanted threats.
The other ways of data storage are by storing the data on a compact disk. Data storage on a compact disk is allowed up to 700 mb. This data storage is also susceptible to various threats. Some of these threats are similar to those affecting the hard drive. Hence data storage on a compact disk has an inherent risk of loss due to these threats. Hence, data stored on a compact disk has to be protected. There are various ways of protecting this data. The data can be protected through various ways. Primary among them are data backups, data storage device protection software etc.
Apart from these there are various other ways of data storage. Data can be stored on magnetic tapes and drives. Data can also be stored on digital video disk drives. These drives are a very recent invention and are catching up very fast among the data storage mode users.
